World's First Cognitive Dress by IBM x Marchesa Utilizes Artificial Intelligence

It's almost time for the 2017 Met Gala- the exclusive annual benefit for the Costume Institute of the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City. The gowns introduced on the red carpet during this exciting event will be sure to highlight some amazing color & material trends, as well as future fashion design concepts and silhouettes. 

With this year's Met Gala coming up on Monday, we were thrilled to visit a new exhibit at the Henry Ford Museum of American Innovation this week to see the first ever cognitive dress, designed by Marchesa and IBM, which was unveiled at last year's Met Gala when it was worn by Karolina Kurkova.

This incredible dress utilizes artificial intelligence to visually communicate emotions gathered from social media. The LED lights embedded in the dress shift color depending on the hashtags that Watson, IBM's computing system, gathers, allowing people to influence the color and look of the dress in real time. 

The emotions and corresponding colors communicated by this dress are joy (rose), excitement (aqua), encouragement (butter yellow), curiosity (lavender), and passion (coral).  This is a wonderful example of how color design can be used to communicate.
